Just as the league leaders would do later, Cobh Ramblers dropped points as they were surprisingly held to a scoreless draw away from home in the First Division of the League of Ireland on Saturday evening.

A lethargic start from Cobh almost saw them fall behind against the side second from bottom in the league. Andy Loughlin headed down at goal midway through the first half but just missed the target to the relief of promotion chasing Cobh.

Wexford were guilty of wasting another good chance in the second half as Joey Wadding missed the target from a good position.

Alan Carey had a couple of chances for Cobh but a long range shot was deflected wide before his free kick was tipped onto the woodwork by goalkeeper Jason Russell.

Stuart Lawlor booted clear off the Wexford line later as the home goal survived a scare from a Carey corner kick.
