Shane Fitzgerald 44
Galway United 2
Derek Glynn 5
Stephen O'Flynn 90 +3
Stephen O'Flynn scored in injury time to give Galway United a much needed point on their visit to face UCD at Belfield Park on Friday night.
Having slipped into the relegation play-off spot last weekend, Galway had a huge incentive to do better and started brightly. After an early effort was ruled out for offside, Derek Glynn struck his ninth goal of the year to give Galway a fifth minute lead.
He chipped home from Derek O'Brien's lay off to continue the Tribesmen's good run of form away from Terryland Park.
Darren Quigley has given his usual high level of performance since returning to the College goal and he saved superbly to deny Shaun Fagan's long range effort as Galway pushed for a second.
After Conor Sammon missed from a good position, Derek Doyle fired UCD level with a low drive just after the half hour. The Students went on to snatch the lead before the break as Shane Fitzgerald got in to ram the ball home from Doyle's flick in front of goal.
Gary Rogers was quickly off his line early in the second half to take the ball away from Doyle as he raced in on goal.
UCD let their grip of the game slip in the closing minutes until O'Flynn looped a header past a crowded goal-mouth to level deep into stoppage time.
The point lifts Galway out of the play-off place although they are going to need to win at home sooner rather than later if they are to steady their season.
